Watch an 18 minute video from the "What is Democracy?" conversation. In December 2003, students from high schools in the Washington, DC area met at the Eastern Division Meeting of the American Philosophical Association to talk, listen and think about the idea of democracy. Joined by professors and teachers, the three hour inquiry into this vital concept at the heart of the American experience demonstrated the kind of critical thinking necessary for a nation of free people to survive and prosper. The conversation was the first in a series of public discussions of philoosphical isses sponsored by the APA's Committee on Pre-College Instruction in Philosophy. The next event featuring high school philosophers will be held at the 2004 Eastern Meeting of the APA in Boston, December 28th 2004, at the Boston Marriott Copley Place. The topic of inquiry will be "National 'Security' and Civil Liberties". For more information on how to be a part of this upcoming event, go here, or e-mail HSPhil@nodogs.org
